4191609-batman-arkham-asylum-game
Arkham3
Batman is a huge character in the Comic book, Movie and action figure industry, he is an iconic figure that is universally recognized. The Batman Arkham games played a huge role in my childhood gaming sessions with my Brother. From crying at the joker's death, celebrating when finally collecting that one last Riddler trophy and screaming at the sight of Mister Freeze following your every move. I am reviewing the brilliant quadrilogy in a trip of nostalgia, hopefully more games will come after Warner Bros read my article! Batman Arkham Asylum – 2009   Synopsis: The Playstation essential that started it all. The Joker has taken over Arkham Asylum and has freed all inmates, it is Batman's to get past villains like Quinn, Ivy and Bane to stop your arch-nemesis the joker. After escaping the wrath of your worst fears, the danger of mother nature and effects of venom you...

The Top 10 Episodes of CW's The Flash

The Top 10 Episodes of CW's The Flash
maxresdefault 7
With the recent release of the much anticipated season 4 kicking off, Geek Genie takes a look at the best 10 episodes of The Flash . 10. "Flash vs Arrow" S1E8 Flash vs Arrow may not have been the craziest episode ever but the 2nd part of the Crossover was a brilliant episode since it was the beginning of many crossovers to come. Action packed, full of great fighting scenes whilst also giving audiences a glimpse of the great friendship between Oliver Queen and Barry Allen.   9. "Flash of Two Worlds" S2E2     The 2nd episode of my favourite season of The Flash , Jay Garrick acts as a mentor to the Flash teaching him the ways of the speedforce. This episode contains a scene that mirrors the iconic comic book cover from The Flash #123   as well as featuring the return of Harrison Wells...but not as...

A Look Back at "Hell In A Cell"

A Look Back at "Hell In A Cell"
028 HIAC 10082017jg 0377 5f6cf9b21f8cff686b55eb23aed608e4
We kick off Geek Genie's new WWE section with a look back at the recent "Hell In A Cell" event! HELL IN A CELL Overall, Smackdown's pay per view was good with a few ups and downs.   The New Day vs The Usos WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship Hell in a Cell Match Usually with Tag matches, I don't watch them, I don't find them exciting. The tend to be over-hyped. But this is one of a handful of tag matches I have enjoyed. It was non-stop action and there were many shocking moments in the match too. My prediction: The New Day retain their titles Result: The Usos won their second Smackdown Tag Championships   AJ Styles vs Baron Corbin vs Tye Dillinger U.S Title       This match had 3 great superstars who I thought all deserved the title, over this month the 3 have been...

Undisputed - PES 2018 kicks FIFA 18 into touch

Undisputed - PES 2018 kicks FIFA 18 into touch
maxresdefault 12 600x338
The biggest battle in football kicks off as Konami and EA do battle for gaming supremacy.  The eternal battle between Konami and EA over who can best bring to gamers the "beautiful game" brings us the 2018 versions of their respective franchises.                        EA has reigned supreme since 2008 with it's innovation in game modes, simulation game play and a lockdown on most official licenses. But 2016 marked the release of what many considered as the best ever football game. Sadly for EA, it was Konami's PES 2016 .            Pro Evolution Soccer was undisputed king of the football gaming world with a series of breathtaking releases from 2000 up until about 2008, when it's crowned started to slip and was eventually knocked off and stolen by EA and its juggernaut franchise FIFA . But ever...

Cruise to Launch Universal Monster-verse with The Mummy

Cruise to Launch Universal Monster-verse with The Mummy
maxresdefault
Universal Pictures will finally get their wish with a shared universe for their iconic monsters and it all kicks off this summer.   It's been a long time coming and quite a few false dawns, but Universal Pictures will finally get their wish. This summer will see the launch of their very own "monster-verse" with the release of The Mummy. Briging all the Universal monsters together in a shared universe has often been seen as a mission impossible, so surely if anyone was going to lead a successful charge for Universal it would be Tom Cruise.  Cruise will play Nick Morton and will be a pivotal character in the universe moving forward. The story is set in the present day, a departure from the traditional period setting for most Mummy iterations.                     The Mummy will also introduce audiences to Dr.Jekyll played...

Do you love monsters?

Do you love monsters?
Is there anything better than monsters? I mean not just scary monsters, either. Aliens and Hellraiser are great and all, but I love monsters of all types. I love monsters in Adventure Time as much as I love them in Lord of the Rings. Monsters have penetrated every corner of entertainment, and they are the perfect literary device to talk about everything from racism to the dangers of nuclear war and to do it in a way that isn't preachy or heavy-handed. The subtle genius of Godzilla is that it got me thinking and talking about nuclear war, even when I was too young to understand what nuclear war even meant. Studying monsters in literature and movies is also a great way to find out what people worried about throughout the ages. Take Aliens . You might consider Aliens one of the greatest horror sci-fi movies of all time, but...

Geek Genie takes a look at what fans have in store for 2017.  It's been a great 21st Century so far for fans of the superhero genre. Marvel and DC have taken their comic book war onto the silver screen. But many a skirmish has taken place on the small screen with The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow and Gotham going toe to toe with Agents of SHIElLD, Daredevil, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones.  As we get into the meat and bones of 2017, Marvel Studios is building on its relationship with Netflix to bring more of its characters to home audiences.  Iron Fist Everybody was kung fu fighting! Well they will be in what will surely be a kick-ass introduction to the MCU for Marvel's resident Kung Fu master, Danny Rand. Expect shoalin shenanigans mixed with...

"Justice League Action" Delivers Hard on the Action

"Justice League Action" Delivers Hard on the Action
JLA1
DC Comic's new animated series 'Justice League Action' premiered in the U.S. this Friday, December 16th on Cartoon Network. This is the newest successor to the Justice League TV franchise, the last one being 2006's 'Justice League Unlimited'. The first episode, an hour long special, featured a plethora of DC heroes and villains, including, Superman, Wonder Woman, Constantine, Swamp Thing, Plastic Man, Martian Man Hunter, Black Adam, The Parasite, Shazam (voiced by Sean Astin) and Batman, voiced by the one and only Kevin Conroy. That's right, Kevin Conroy the man who voiced Batman in 'Batman: The Animated Series', and the 'Batman: Arkham' series has returned to reprise his iconic role as the Dark Knight himself. This review won't go into specifics about the episode as to best avoid spoilers, just my overall impression of the show. Now, from the previous promos leading to the premiere, we could tell the new...

Geek Genie caught up with author Jason Powell on the release of his book "The Best There is at What He does - Examining Chris Claremont's X-Men" released by Sequart.   GG: Hi Jason. Congratulations on the release of your book! What made you want to write a book specifically about the Claremont run in X-Men? JP: Well I guess that my love of the X-Men is really tied to that particular run by Chris Claremont. I was lucky enough to be given a collection of comic books from my Uncle which had a good mix of Marvel comics (although he refused to give up his Spidey books!). I discovered the X-Men at the same time that the X-Men cartoon series was also taking off and so I really wanted to find out more about these chracters.   GG: Claremont's run is legendary for its soap opera and length of...

ROCKSTARS 01 ADV
It's Led Zeppelin meets The X-Files as writer Joe Harris and artist Megan Hutchison talk about their forthcoming Image Comics series "Rockstars". Strap in for a Rock 'n' Roll mystery tour like no other!   GG: Congratulations on what looks like an awesome new series! Joe, tell us a bit about "Rockstars". What is the series about? JH: It's a rock 'n' roll supernatural thriller; a love letter to the music I adore, and an exploration into what's hidden behind the music.  It follows two young investigators named Jackie and Dorothy (along with Skydog, Jackie's cat) as they try to get to the bottom of unsolved, even previously unknown, mysteries related to rock history both known and secreted away. GG: How did you come up with the idea of Rockstars? Is this Led Zep meets X-Files? JH: That's sounds about right! I've been saying "Almost Famous meets Supernatural," but I think...

Don Heck - A Tribute

Don Heck - A Tribute
7df3865eea5deb27338215245ccddfb9
I grew up in a small town, and while not quite as small as the fictional “Mayberry” of Andy Griffith fame… one of the main hangouts of my dad and his pals was the Barber Shop. It was called “Harry’s”, and if not for a small wicker basket tucked into a corner, it would have been the last place in the world I’d have liked to hang out. Now don’t get me wrong, my father and his cronies did have some funny stories to tell about glory days, but you can only get a kick out of them so many times before you’re relegated to a polite smile. Though that corner was polluted with age old hair clippings never swept up… it was my salvation. The wicker basket had all sorts of literature inside. Time, Look, Life, years old local papers, and the like. Nothing for a curious little boy...

The Flash Movie Looks For Another New Director

The Flash Movie Looks For Another New Director
Rick Famuyiwa The Flash Banner1
Warner Bros look for their third Director for the Scarlet Speedster. Rick Famuyiwa has left Warner Bros. looking for their third Director for the upcoming Flash movie. Citing creative differences, Famuyiwa released this statement:    "When I was approached by Warner Bros and DC about the possibility of directing The Flash , I was excited about the opportunity to enter this amazing world of characters that I loved growing up, and still do to this day. I was also excited to work with Ezra Miller, who is a phenomenal young actor. I pitched a version of the film in line with my voice, humour and heart. While it's disappointing that we couldn't come together creatively on this project, I remain grateful for the opportunity. I will continue to look for oppportunities to tell stories that speak to fresh generational, topical and multi-cultural point of view. I wish Warner Bros. DC,...

Raimi's Spider-Man - A Look Back After "Homecoming"
c6104b3946b8663eb7e13ad22507c945c8b05553
With the introduction of Spider-Man into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the recent box office hit  Homecoming , Geek Genie takes a wistful look back at Sam Raimi's original trilogy of movies in the naughties...starting with  Spider-Man . When a young teenager by the name of Tom Holland appeared in Captain America: Civil War , it was the first time a teenager was depicting a teenage Spider-Man. Toby Maguire, Andrew Garfield and long before him Nicolas Hammond, were all mid to late twenties when they were web spinning so most of fandom were happy that Spider-Man was truly returning to his roots with a physical depiction of Spider-Man more true to the original character created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. So how does the Maguire Spider-Man now fit into the cinematic mythos? In terms of continuity, it doesn't exist as Marvel only recently reached an agreement with Sony to...

Konami scores with PES 2017

Konami scores with PES 2017
pes 2017 k36wkbpbvvam1gfoly9ak6xxs
PES 2017 set to build on critically acclaimed 2016 version. The latest installment of the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise hit the shelves worldwide to yet more critical acclaim, with many industry reviews describing the football game as the best ever.  Konami's move to the Fox engine has proved a sound move for the Japanese based game maker with long term (and some would say long suffering) fans decsribing the latest iteration as a return to the glory days for PES. But will it beat arch rivals FIFA as the best football game of 2017? Well it depends on the criterion used to judge both games. Based on sales alone FIFA will surely wipe the floor with PES and EA Sports has done well to continue to add "whistles and bells" to it's format with a new Career Mode charting the rise of a young hopeful, Alex Hunter recieving rave reviews....
